Who approved this? A content writer’s take on Melania Trump’s alleged plagiarism

Here’s a line that’s getting old: Trump was in the news again.

At last night’s Republican national convention, First Lady hopeful Melania Trump delivered a heartfelt speech about American values. Her thoughtful delivery included phrases that are part of the Trump-approved “make America great again” brand.

But the media took notice: many of those phrases sounded very similar to a speech given by Michelle Obama at the 2008 Democratic convention. It appears as though a large portion of Melania’s speech was lifted directly from Michelle’s.

As the world collectively rolled its eyes, some Republicans were eager to defend Trump for her alleged plagiarism. And so the cycle continues anew. The Trump campaign trips, fall and picks itself back up by pretending the fall never happened.

At this point, is anyone surprised?

Of course, talk around the Schmooz water cooler this morning focused on the impact of yet another Trump scandal. The GOP’s nominee is very good at getting people talking. And it doesn’t matter if what they’re talking about so long as he’s front and centre.

We don’t need a reminder that the Donald’s media savvy comes from years of experience as a reality TV star. This has become crystal clear.

Aside from the political implications, Schmoozers are thinking about what happened behind the scenes. Namely, who wrote and approved this speech? Was this whole thing planned?

There’s no way a campaign as sophisticated as Trump’s wouldn’t be aware of this plagiarism. And a move like this has a positive result. It’s only makes his supporters run to his defence.
