Urban Acorn Catering, Bringing People Together

Urban Acorn Catering is a flexitarian catering company run out of the Junction Triangle by husband and wife duo Marie Fitrion and Daniel Holloway. Inspired by music, art, and their three children, Fitrion, the “Boss Lady” and Holloway, the Chef Extraordinaire believe that Food Should Unite and Not Divide People.

It started off with a Vegan Supper Club – a dinner party series meant to bring people together through the act of eating and sharing. But within a year this gathering had become something more. In 2012, Urban Acorn Catering was born.

Fitrion, who runs the day-to-day operations, has over 15 years of experience in event management (along with diplomas in Fashion Arts and Public Relations – and is a WPIC certified wedding planner) and it’s a role that allows her to merge her passion for food, culture, and communication. Holloway has over 15 years in the culinary industry and has honed a style that can best be called refined comfort food – a blend of rustic Canadian cuisine with fine French technique. Since apprenticing under Chef Tobias Pohl-Weary, he has catered for the likes of Margaret Atwood, Prince, Michaëlle Jean, and George Laraque.

Urban Acorn is sustainable and plant-based, with a five-pillar mandate that includes community, quality, diversity, customizability, and accountability. And it’s more than just feel good food, it’s also delicious.

Offering catering to a wide variety of events (weddings, private personal chef) and types of meals (a plated multi-course meal, a casual family-style dinner, small bites) they will work with what’s available to make each experience both tasty and meaningful.
