It can be for the days where there’s a two-hour gap scheduled in between your meetings, or a chance to browse after a long day at work. It’s more than an idle gaze into a store. Window shopping can be a serious pick-me-up when you’re feeling uninspired.

Window shopping is a surprisingly pleasant experience if you’re looking in the right places. Fortunately, Toronto is packed with a lot of places. Here are some Schmoozworthy local shops to explore:

Imagine rows upon rows of literature and media of all different shapes, sizes, and subjects- you’re at a BMV (we <3 BMV!). There are three different locations in Toronto, and with their big bold red lettering on white, they’re hard to miss. Their abundant collection will keep any curious mind at bay from topics such as the history of fonts to step-by-step dog grooming. Every week, the store showcases ’Unique Finds’ on their website and results in some really individual pieces to look at (this week included vintage puzzles from the ‘60s).

As one of the many gems in Kensington Market, there is a print studio that doubles as a shop called Kid Icarus. The store is home of many unique crafting supplies, and gifts. The especially cool thing about the store is that its inventory represents many local artists, and is overall an atmosphere where one is inspired to create. Each corner of the shop is filled with knick-knacks and stationery that will keep the eye wandering.

As Canada’s largest independent record store, Sonic Boom’s location on Spadina is the place to be for music. Everyone can get wound up in this store looking through their humongous collection of records, where you can find the newest releases or take a trip down memory lane. Record stores are one of the places where music and visual art are most harmonious, so it’s easy to spend hours gazing at album art as you flip through their infinite rows of records. And with operational hours from 10 a.m. to midnight during 364 days of the week, you can.
