Watching Ted Talks is a favourite pastime. Why not learn from as many different people as possible? Why not watch their body language and learn from them? Let’s turn this into an opportunity to get schmoozing, to hear people’s points of view.
Today, Schmooz watched Kathryn Schultz. She has spent “the last five years thinking about being wrong” and how people like to avoid being wrong. What a powerful and liberating talk. During my time as a teacher, I noticed that children are given so much pressure to be right, and to be right the first time. I used to tell my students about the mistakes I made; I wanted to celebrate mistakes with people because mistakes are opportunities. When I make mistakes, I learn. When I struggle, I learn. This is not to say that I, or anyone for that matter, want their life to be a struggle, but to be open to the idea that not knowing can lead to innovation, creative problem solving, making new connections…this is an idea that we find interesting at Schmooz.
Our company will not always have the answer. Our company will not always do everything right. What we can do is tell you that we will always talk about it. Learning and improving and being genuine about providing the most value to you is our priority.
