With a million things to do each day, entrepreneurs need to make sure they are on top of their game at all times.
If they’re not, tasks can pile up pretty quickly and get overwhelming. To keep madness at bay, a great first step is selecting a planner that fits your needs. The next step is actually using it.
So, as you sift through your upcoming meetings, events, and how to plan for them, here are some tips to help you set up your schedule.
Focus
You started this business for a reason - whether it’s your passion for baking, accounting, helping others or something else altogether. Keep that in mind as you set your goals for the day, week, or even month. Make sure that the tasks you add to your To Do list help you focus on your purpose.
Re-evaluate
Being busy is great, but only if the busy-ness is effective. Take time to really look at your list for the day and try to recognize which tasks are taking up a lot of time without giving much return. For example, maybe you feel that you are spending almost all day dealing with emails, which doesn’t really contribute to your bottom line. Dedicate only two hours of the day to deal with the emails and that way you can focus the other time or activities that will enhance your business. Your schedule will thank you.
Prioritize
You know what’s important for your business, so once you list out what needs to be done, take a good hard look at it and decide what tasks are urgent, which can wait, and which can technically be done at a later time. List the tasks again, in order of priority - and that is the order to tackle each item.
Balance
A good schedule is about balance, so make sure to keep in mind what makes you work effectively. Now, this may not be anything technically work-related, but if you know that a 15-minute yoga routine is the best way to get you focused in the morning, incorporate that 15 minutes into your planning.
Keeping a planner can be a tedious task, but it can also be fun and effective if done efficiently. What are some tips you follow when setting up your planner? Let us know in the comments!
