A few days ago, I received a great compliment as far as compliments go, at least in my eyes. In conversation with a company’s employee, he stopped and looked at me and called me a writer. I was baffled, and though I didn’t show it, I knew in that moment that I was going to come back to home office and write about how someone called me a writer. The joy I felt when I heard that is something that I cannot describe. It is a privilege to write to support my clients, to support businesses.
“Writers,” he said “I don’t understand them.” Seemingly, he was leaving the conversation open for me to somehow explain to him how writers function, something which I cannot do. While I try to understand people’s unique voices, and show that in my writing, this does not mean that I understand how all writers do what they do.
I am so thrilled that I am able to write for different purposes. I write for Schmooz – to show you my voice and who I am and what I am working towards. I write for my clients – blogs and social media postings to demonstrate their services, their exceptional and growing communities. I write for myself – to reflect, to plan, and to dream. When I can connect with people through writing, listening, and talking, I feel a sense of purpose. I do a good job when I feel purpose.
From something as small as calling me a writer, to something much bigger, like a client seeing positive results because of what Schmooz is doing, I love what I do. Being complimented for what you’re doing, and what you’ve always wanted to do, is a pretty incredible feeling.
