Learning When to ‘Not’

When you want to make everything possible, it’s hard to say ‘no’ or ‘I can’t’.

All around us people are juggling so many things at the same time, and it seems there’s a strong sense of admiration with people who can do more. It’s best to remind yourself, that none of us are the same!

We all have endless potential; however, there’s something highly respectable about a person who can recognize his or her own limits. It shows a true sense of self-awareness.

Looking at the people around you, the people you work with, and the people you love, you’ll find one of the most revered characteristics is their transparency and honesty. They know who they are (and they’ve probably made time to work on their passion projects).

The worst case scenario is this: doing something that makes you happy has become overwhelmingly tiring. Comfort and happiness can become fragile, and they’re the bare necessities to ensure the enthusiasm, so you need to take care of them. In some cases, the best approach is to step away and come back when you’re in a different state of mind. It allows us to realize that sometimes you have to prioritize yourself in order to achieve greater things.

Here's a quote from Charles Bukowski that wraps it up eloquently:

“I was laying in bed one night and I thought ‘I’ll just quit— to hell with it.’ And another little voice inside me said ‘Don’t quit— save that tiny little ember of spark.’ And never give them that spark because as long as you have that spark, you can start the greatest fire again.”
