When his career as a professional hockey goalie came to an end, Nunzio decided to go to business school and enrolled at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University. It was during this period that he started his first business with a friend. Nunzio and his partner soon realized that they did not have the resources or expertise to make the business grow so they decided to sell it. It was during the search for a buyer that he came up with the idea for BizON.
“I discovered that nothing out there met my expectations. There were brokers that laughed since we were very small, realtors that only had experience with residential deals, and other platforms and directories that were unfocused, unprofessional and provided a choppy user experience.” Recalls Nunzio. “That’s when I said to myself - if there is nothing out there that I feel comfortable using, I am going to create the solution.” Nunzio started planning BizON in late 2012 and officially launched in 2014 after surrounding himself with the right team.
“Buying or selling a business or franchise is either the first or second largest asset a person can have, therefore, we are involved in a journey that can be challenging and emotional.” says Nunzio when describing his favourite part about connecting business and franchise buyers and sellers. It's extremely humbling and satisfying to share the journey of buying, selling or growing with his users. Most important for Nunzio is the feeling of enabling someone to either sell a business or franchise and start the next chapter in their life or buy a business or franchise that they are passionate about in order to find a new purpose.
Nunzio recalled two of his favourite client success stories for us. The first one involved a buyer who had found herself unhappy in her 9-to-5 job and was looking to become a business owner so that she could find her passion, purpose and something more suited to her lifestyle. After searching on BizON, she found the perfect business - a nice children's playground with a ton of potential. Since purchasing the business, she and her family have grown the business into a successful little venture.
The second success story involves an established 20 year old business that had grown to be extremely successful and the focal point of its community. When the business owner unfortunately passed away, his family decided to sell the business but were determined to find the right person who could carry on the legacy already established. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts with brokers, they decided to leverage BizON and found interested and qualified buyers.
Finding buyers for your business when the time comes can be hard, mostly because many owners don’t start their business thinking about selling it. Nunzio believes that thinking about an exit strategy is critical. “When starting a business think about your exit strategy, because it is inevitable.
