Not Happy? Change Something.
Is it that simple? While many of Schmooz Guest Bloggers show a fearless attitude towards plunging into a life of uncertainty, change is very hard for most people. Change is not always easy for me, but I have learned to welcome it more openly.
I have had the privilege of speaking to many amazing people on behalf of my clients. Although everyone I have spoken to offers me new knowledge and insight, there is one woman who stands out in particular. This former teacher has M.S., and after over 10 years of struggling through different treatments, she still has such a wonderful attitude about life. Without disclosing more information, I can tell you that it was a great moment of reflection for me. Many other people in the same situation would live with negativity and anger, unable to move forward. I understand how hard it can be to move forward, but this was someone who chose to continue to be active and to give back to the community. She knew her life would be more challenging from the moment she was diagnosed, but she also knew that a diagnosis would mean a hopeful solution to her pain. I do not know how long it took her to decide to celebrate her life, or if this was her natural response to life's obstacles, but she inspired me.
With an increased uncertainty about her life, she still embraced the changes and was living a happy well-rounded life. I was inspired to continue taking care of myself, to continue challenging myself and to continue being open to whatever it is that life brings. It's not always easy, but I think this woman reminded me why moving with change or making change yourself it is worth it.
In case this story hasn't convinced you, here are a few reasons why changing something is a good idea:
1. Changing keeps things fresh and current: What better to talk about than all the exciting new things you're learning about! You will continue to grow because of the new things you learn, and the new people you meet as a result.
2. It often takes more to resist change than to embrace change; stop resisting and start celebrating the change in your life. Remember, since most people resist change, embracing the change might put you on top!
3. Change something to challenge yourself: In this great big world of ours, so many things are possible. If you wait for the opportunities to come knocking, you may spend a lot of time waiting. Try something new.
Inevitably life changes, but it is what you do when life changes that matters. Or if life isn't changing, and you're not happy, you have the chance to change something. It is much easier to give out advice than it is to do it yourself, but I can proudly say that I changed something when I was unhappy, and it has paid off. Easier said than done though.
Wishing all my readers an open mind, heart and spirit when it comes to embracing change! Here's hoping that continuing to take risks pays off. I vow to continue to listen to my gut, to make mistakes and to learn everyday!
